What does the Height Calculator do?
Height Calculator is a free height calculator for babies, boys, girls and adults. Convert any height between centimeters and feet/inches, compare heights side by side, calculate the exact difference between two heights, check where a child’s height falls on a percentile chart, and estimate a child’s future adult height from the parents’ heights. Every result is an educational estimate — not medical advice.
How is a height percentile calculated?
A height percentile compares a child’s height against large population reference datasets for the same age and sex. A child at the 75th percentile is taller than about 75 out of 100 peers of the same age and sex. Our percentile references are based on the CDC growth charts (United States, ages 2–20) and the WHO Child Growth Standards (birth to age 5, used worldwide).
How accurate is the child height predictor?
The predictor uses the mid-parental height method, the standard formula pediatricians reference. For boys it is (father’s height + mother’s height + 13 cm) ÷ 2; for girls, (father’s height + mother’s height − 13 cm) ÷ 2. It is an estimate, not a guarantee: most children end up within about 8–10 cm (3–4 inches) of the predicted value, and genetics, nutrition, sleep and health all influence final height. No predictor is 100% accurate.
Where does the growth data come from?
Our percentile and growth-chart references come from two authoritative public sources: the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) growth charts, based on US national health surveys for ages 2–20, and the WHO (World Health Organization) Child Growth Standards for birth to age 5, built from a multi-country study of healthy children. Unit conversions use the exact international standard (1 inch = 2.54 cm).
