What is a height percentile?
A percentile tells you where a child's height falls compared with children of the same age and sex in a reference population. A 50th percentile means about half of peers are shorter and half are taller; a 90th percentile means the child is taller than about 90% of peers. It is a comparison, not a grade.
Which growth reference should I use — CDC, WHO, or UK-WHO?
Use CDC for ages 2–20 (the US reference, standing height), WHO for birth to 5 years (the international standard; length is measured lying down under age 2), and UK-WHO for ages 2 weeks to 4 years (the UK charts, which follow WHO data in that window). Our tools only compute results inside each reference's published age range.
How accurate is the child height predictor?
It uses the classic mid-parental height formula, which estimates genetic target height — not a guaranteed outcome. Most children end up within ±8.5 cm of the predicted value, and no method predicts adult height exactly. We always show the range alongside the prediction.
Is this medical advice?
No. These are educational estimates based on published growth references. Percentiles describe where a measurement falls in a reference population; they cannot diagnose anything. If you have concerns about a child's growth, consult a pediatrician.
Do you store the measurements I enter?
No. Every calculation runs entirely in your browser — ages and heights are never sent to a server or stored anywhere.
Why is there no result for some ages?
Each growth reference only covers the ages its published tables were built for — for example, the CDC reference starts at 2 years and the UK-WHO reference ends at 4 years. Rather than guessing beyond published data, the calculator shows an honest notice instead of a number.
